What is the normal number of hairs to lose each day?
The average person loses around 75 hairs per day as part of the natural cycle…but please don’t start counting!
If we all lose a fair amount of hair each time we brush our hair, then how come we are not all bald?
A hair grows for between three and five years before it reaches full length, goes into a resting phase then falls out. Each follicle has a different growth and resting cycle so that different strands fall out at different times and you keep a full head of hair.
Do we all have a similar number of individual hairs on our heads?
The average person has 100,000 hairs. Blondes usually have the most (about 120,000), redheads the least (90,000) and brunettes come somewhere in the middle.
Do we have the same strands of hair for life?
No. It is likely your entire head of hair will be replaced ten times during your lifetime.
Does all the hair on our heads grow at once?
At any one time, 90 percent of your hair is growing and 10 percent is resting.
